Discoverers
My daughter attended Sunshine full-time from the age of 13 months, and we had a great experience. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the children were always happy. We stayed with Sunshine all the way through, and the top room team did a great job at prepping my daughter for school. .” Nikki (Mum)
Our Discoverers Room is full of energy, wonder, and growing independence. Designed especially for our toddlers, this room provides a nurturing and engaging environment where children are encouraged to explore, question, and discover at their own pace. Days are filled with meaningful experiences—from walks in the local community to time spent at Forest School, the allotment, and visits to Ridley Manor, offering real-world learning in natural surroundings. Indoors, children are gently introduced to Montessori Practical Life activities, helping them build independence and care for their environment. Freely accessible art areas invite creativity and self-expression, while our calm, experienced staff team supports every child’s emotional and developmental needs. The Discoverers Room is a place where confidence grows, friendships blossom, and learning is joyfully lived every day
Our Approach
Turning two marks a time of rapid development—children become more curious, independent, and eager to exploretheir world. At Sunshine Montessori, we embrace this exciting stage with an environment that nurtures discovery, confidence, and joy.
Our toddler rooms are thoughtfully arranged into a variety of learning zones, each designed to spark interest and support development. Children can move freely between areas including small world play, role play, a cosy story corner, messy play, and open-ended loose parts, all carefully planned with enticing provocations and invitations to learn. We believe in the environment as the ‘third teacher’, and our spaces are filled with beauty, purpose, and opportunities to explore.
Our experienced practitioners plan a balance of adult-led activities—introducing new concepts and skills—and child-led opportunities, where children can revisit, practise, and extend their learning at their own pace. This responsive, play-based approach allows us to meet each child’s unique developmental needs.
We also see great value in the learning that happens through daily routines. From around two years old, children are encouraged to serve their own food, tidy up their toys, help clean up after activities, and begin dressing themselves—developing real independence and pride in their abilities.
Fresh air and time in nature are a core part of our day. All toddlers spend time outdoors at least twice a day and enjoy regular visits to our Forest School, allotment, Ridley Manor, and local community. These real-world experiences give children space to move, explore, take safe risks, and build a lifelong love of the outdoors.
