Our Explorers are the youngest members of the Sunshine Montessori family, joining us from as early as 3 months old and staying until they are confidently approaching their second birthday. This is a time of incredible growth, as babies begin their journey toward toddlerhood – learning to move, communicate, build relationships, and explore the world around them.
Our Explorers (under twos) are cared for at a dedicated baby site, just a short walk from the main nursery. This calm and nurturing space has been carefully designed to meet the unique needs of our youngest children – providing a peaceful environment where they can build strong relationships, follow familiar routines, and begin their early learning journey with confidence.
Our babies benefit from regular visits to our brand-new Baby Forest School site, located within walking distance. Here, they can enjoy rich sensory experiences in nature – splashing in puddles, watching the wind in the trees, and exploring the natural world in a way that supports their curiosity, physical development, and emotional wellbeing.
This separate setting allows our Explorers to thrive in an environment that’s truly tailored to them, while gently preparing them for a smooth and confident transition to the main nursery site when the time comes.
Our Approach
At Sunshine Montessori, our Explorers (baby room) is a calm, nurturing space where the very youngest children begin their journey with us feeling safe, loved, and confident.
Our approach is rooted in building strong, secure attachments from day one. We know that a close bond with a consistent key person helps each baby feel truly settled and supported. That connection begins with you, their parents. We take the time to get to know your child deeply – how they are comforted, what routines they follow, what brings them joy, and what they need to feel secure. This ongoing partnership with families ensures each baby’s day follows the rhythms and care preferences that feel familiar and reassuring.
In the Explorers room, we see each baby as a unique and capable individual. Our team thoughtfully balances gentle adult-led learning with open-ended, child-led exploration. Every week, we design new and engaging invitations to play, taking inspiration from the babies’ interests and developmental needs. We observe carefully, identifying the skills each child is working on and celebrating the milestones they’ve mastered. These moments are captured and shared with you through our EY Log app, keeping you connected to your child’s learning and joy.
We believe in the power of the environment as the “third educator.” Our space is carefully prepared to invite curiosity and support independence, from soft cosy corners to stimulating heuristic play sessions. These reflective times allow us to notice the schemas your baby is exploring – patterns of play that tell us about how they’re thinking and learning. By tuning into these, we can offer personalised experiences that truly support each child’s growth.
