Investigators

“We’ve had children at Sunshine for over 6.5 years. We love Sunshine and couldn’t rate it highly enough. The staff are so caring and considerate - you feel so safe knowing your children are in their hands. The kids love it too. They are stimulated and challenged every day. We really do regard Sunshine as an extension of our family” (Tom, Dad)

Our Investigators Room is the final stage of a child’s journey at Sunshine Montessori, typically welcoming children from around three years old until they leave for school. Set in a beautiful, character-filled building, the room is designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and creativity. Children have access to a wide range of inviting spaces including role play, small world, loose parts, art, practical life, and early literacy zones, alongside a cosy reading corner and areas for more structured pre-school learning. This is a truly magical stage of development—when children’s thinking becomes more complex, their conversations more expressive, and their understanding of the world grows by the day. Our environment supports them to explore freely, build relationships, and enjoy each day with confidence and joy.

Our Approach

In the Investigators Room, our approach is rooted in the belief that children learn best through real experiences, meaningful relationships, and a sense of ownership over their learning. We follow a limitless Montessori-inspired curriculum, tailored to each child’s interests and developmental needs, encouraging deep thinking, independence, and curiosity. Our practitioners work closely with their key children—carefully observing, supporting, and guiding their next steps through a mix of purposeful play and intentional teaching.

Learning doesn’t just happen indoors. Investigators regularly enjoy enriching experiences at our allotment, Forest School, and Ridley Manor, alongside community outings that connect them to the world around them and help them grow into confident, compassionate citizens. Many children also take on roles as part of our Nursery Council, where their voices are heard and respected in shaping aspects of nursery life. These experiences foster not only academic readiness but also leadership, communication, and a strong sense of belonging—ensuring that children leave Sunshine not just school-ready, but life-ready.
