Extract from Ofsted report December 2007:
The premises are very well organised and the play areas are enhanced by attractive posters, displays and children's artwork.
Children settle quickly in the well-organised environment. They sustain interest in their play and are engrossed in the activities.
Children are highly independent.
Staff provide children with excellent opportunities to learn mathematical concepts.
Parents are very happy with the setting.
The strong partnership with parents enables them to be part of their child's learning and is of great benefit to the children.
The leadership and management is good. Staff have a strong professionalism and undertake additional training to benefit the children.
"We have been absolutely delighted with The Sunshine Montessori School. Virginia Roden cultivates such a welcoming environment for pre school children taking their first step towards independence - our daughter felt at home within a matter of days. In a calm and caring atmosphere, our daughter has been nurtured through toddler-hood and is more than ready to embark on life at 'big' school. She is leaving Sunshine as a confident little girl with well developed social skills and a respectful and caring attitude towards her peers. Our daughter has thoroughly enjoyed exploring a superb range of topics and activities each term - from The Universe to Growth Cycles, not forgetting the delightful 'outings' on Downley Common. "My daughter attended the school for two and a half years and my younger daughter was a pupil until July 2003. Even now, though the elder one has started at 'big' school, she can't wait to go back and see Miss Virginia and her staff. Like most parents, I knew little about Montessori when she started. But I knew that I has found something very special. Then I started to read more about it. I saw day by day how it is based on careful observation of each child and tapping each stage of childhood development, so new skills, and concentration develop quickly and easily. The range and breadth of activities are huge, the enthusiasm for learning immense and the impact is a real joy to behold. Ofsted says that the quality of teaching is 'excellent', and rightly so. The test of all these things is the child though. They have thrived, turning from shy little toddlers into confident independent little girls. "Sunshine Montessori School has endowed my two oldest children of five
years and three and a half years, with all the skills they will need for
their future school lives. They can read and count with confidence, interact
well with both other children and adults and can converse clearly and
concisely on many subjects, constantly surprising me with their general
knowledge and grasp of facts. My oldest daughter has now started at 'big'
school and with all the confidence she has gained from Sunshine, has settled
in with no problems whatsoever. All my children love Miss Virginia and my
youngest can't wait to start in January. I am expecting my fourth child in a
few weeks and I look forward to her/him starting with Miss Virginia and
growing into as confident a child as my oldest have become. For myself, I
have enjoyed watching my children teach both my husband and me how to enjoy
life using the world they have discovered through the Sunshine Montessori
