About The Teachers
The staff are chosen to enhance the friendly, family atmosphere. All have proven skills in childcare and work closely with the principal to achieve the school aims. A staff development programme is followed.
Virginia Roden started her career as a teacher in a girl's secondary school in Guildford, Surrey. Some years later, having started her own family, she discovered the Montessori system by chance whilst searching for ways of stimulating her own young pre-school children. Before long she had signed up for the diploma course, soon became qualified as a Montessori teacher and started working in a highly regarded Montessori school in London. A move to High Wycombe in 1995 necessitated a break with London but provided a chance to develop her own schools locally. Sunshine Montessori School is now a thriving school in the heart of a small village bordering on to woodlands and common land close to the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe. Cookham Montessori School, situated in the delightful Thames-side village of Cookham Dean, near Maidenhead, was acquired some years later. Both provide children from near and far with a wonderful start to their school life.
Sunshine Montessori Full Day Care Nursery at Wheeler End, High Wycombe opened its doors for the first time on 1st September 2008. It is the only full-time Montessori nursery in the area and is proving very popular as it provides the hours and flexibility that parents need.
Melanie Ward is the manager of our nursery. She sent both her children to Sunshine Montessori School and was so delighted with their progress that she decided to stay on after they left! Melanie can turn her hand to anything but particularly enjoys role play and working with puppets to encourage each child's personal, social and emotional development. She gained her Diploma in Pre-school Practise in 2007 and began to study towards her full Montessori diploma in 2010.
Alison Webb is an established fully-qualified Montessori teacher. Amongst other appointments she managed a full daycare nursery before taking a break to have her own children. She is now a very valued member of the Sunshine staff.
Sue Barnett is married and has 2 children of her own. She spent many years in childminding before joining the staff of Sunshine Montessori School. She is fully involved in all areas of the curriculum, frequently using much of her private time to plan and prepare lessons. She gained her Diploma in Pre-school Practise in 2007.
Clare Summers sent all three of her children to Sunshine Montessori before taking up a position on the staff team. She is enjoying the opportunity of walking across the common to work and being responsible for helping other children experience the wonders of teaching through the Montessori Method. She is due to complete her NVQ level 2 in December 2008.
Julie Webb is currently training for her NVQ level 2 with Miss Clare. She also is lucky enough to have been born and brought up in Downley so can bring all her local knowledge into the nursery when it is needed.
Sarah Bass, Jo Lee and Linda Vaughan are our newest members of staff who
came into the fold in 2007. They bring with them their lovely welcoming and nurturing arms and gorgeous smiles that comfort the hearts of even our most timid children.
